safely seen

a wellness peer support group

Safely Seen is a six-week, youth-centered peer support group for teens ages 13–17 in Transylvania County who are navigating mental health or behavioral health challenges.

Safely Seen is about more than learning coping skills. Interpersonal relationships are at the heart of the program. Created with youth, Safely Seen offers a welcoming space to connect, be heard, build skills, & grow alongside peers who understand.

Youth will have opportunities to build meaningful relationships with peers & a trusted adult with lived experience, develop communication and relationship-building skills, & practice giving and receiving support. Through shared experiences and mutual learning, participants can strengthen their sense of connection, belonging, and support while identifying people and resources they can turn to beyond the group.

The group is facilitated by an NC Certified Peer Support Specialistwith lived experience, creating a space grounded in understanding, mutual support, personal strengths, & hope.

Safely Seen is peer support—not formal psychotherapy or medical treatment. The focus is on shared learning, relationship-building, & helping young people recognize & build the connections with resources that support their well-being.

Over six weeks, participants will have opportunities to:

  • Name and understand emotions during difficult transitions

  • Explore self-care, connection, and community resources

  • Discover identity, strengths, and values—what makes you, you

  • Find your voice through self-expression and goal-setting

  • Build routines that support well-being and emotional stability

  • Look toward the future through vision-building and long-term goals
